I beleive it is University of Toronto (aka UofT).
Which makes sense, Toronto is one of the oldest settler destinations, including Montreal as well.

-U of T On March 15, 1827 not at all the oldest!!!! The oldest are in Atlantic Canada and Quebec! In fact in Atlantic Canada there are MANY universities that started way before 1827! Including Dalhousie 1818 my school!

Oldest.....
-Universit? Laval traces its origins back to 1663, when Monseigneur Fran?ois de Laval, the first bishop of New France, founded the S?minaire de Qu?bec with the authorization of the King of France, Louis XIV. A Royal Charter creating the Universit? Laval was granted to the S?minaire de Qu?bec by Queen Victoria in 1852. (depends on the date you chose)
-University of Kings College, Year of foundation: 1789
-Founded in 1785, the University of New Brunswick is Canada´s oldest English-speaking University

maritime history (in reply to: Which university is oldest university in Canada)
Yes - the maritime´s does have the oldest universities in Canada. Saint Mary´s University recently celebrated it´s 200th anniversary. As for Toronto and Montreal being the oldest settlement destinations - the Maritime´s were. Dartmouth, NS was settle in 1749 and Halifax was settled in 1750. Atlantic Canada was actually the "hub" for Canada for over 100 years given its ports and proximaty to Europe and the States

and about the atlantic provinces - sorry but there is a big difference b/n a college and a university. College does not give a bachellor degree nor it educates doctors or lawyers... and the oldest university should be considered the one that first did it. And again - it is McGill - since 1821.
Dalhousie: http://www.dal.ca/campus/history/ you can see that the 1st degree was awarded in 1866...
I am sure you can find your sources for the rest of the Atlantic colleges - they are not universities!!! McGill is and has always been!!!

UBC was founded in around 1800, so that´s about 20 years older than Toronto and McGill.

Dessi I find it extremely funny how you think McGill is the oldest university while saying ´UofT students sorry to dissapoint you´ and ´can?t believe you guys were born here and don?t know the answer´, yet you don´t even know yourself. I guess that means you weren´t born here, that or your university isn´t teaching you much.

Uh... UBC was originally a branch of McGill University, so there´s no way it could be older than McGill.

age nor settlement date of any-one university define its superiority, but, merely how it executes and acheives its sucess through student discipline and academia

UBC ? (in reply to: Which university is oldest university in Canada)
People who say UBC is the oldest canadian university are those without knowledge in north america history. If natives had had colleges before europeans landed on the continent, then it would be arguable whether the natives in BC built the college first or not.

Mcgill has been considered by most around the world the oldest university in Canada. Montreal had long been the biggest city in Canada too before around 1990.
