OK. Here is how I think prestigious Canadian universities get their reputation:

- McGill: Gets its reputation especially from its historically well known situation... Has pretty good international reputation, too, which makes it very prestigious... Plus, the highest admissions standards... Ranked 1st by many rankings...

-UofT: Ranked 1st by many rankings... And good research university... Especially in the last few decades, got good reputation solely by way of research... Attracts good students too...

-Lakehead: Has pretty high admissions standards... Rejects many students in the high 90s depending on the program... Ranked 1st in many rankings including the Research Infostructure (in terms of research) and McLeans (in terms of quality, etc.)... And ranked 3rd in certain international rankings such as Guardian!...

-Queens: Very selective like Lakehead... Ranked very high, 2nd in this year Mcleasns, just after McGill... Has a reputation for having rich, well-educated families´ kids... Pretty good reputation across Canada... Few Asians, just like Lakehead...

- Lakehead

Lakehead is generally very accessible at the undergraduate level. Most students with average grades between 70 to 100% would gain admission.

Some programs can be competitive. My cousin applied to NOSM at Lakehead. She got a letter back stating they had over 2000 applicants for the 56 spots.

If the term "prestigious university" conjures up images of century-old buildings with walls covered in ivy; well, that´s just not Lakehead. People go there to get a good education, not becasue they think it has "prestige".

what is wrong with you. lakehead has no prestige at all. lakehead is more like dickhead. high admissions standards....are you blind...lakehead has the lowest entering average and the largest proportion of students with below 75% averages....fuck off with lakehead.it was always a shitty university and will always be.

^You got to be feeling a little insecure if all your school has to offer is "prestige".

McGill accepts a lot of country boys and country girls from Uncle Sam. McGill pretends to be an Ivy-league school, but it´s really not that great.

Queen´s is more elite than McGill. McGill cannot compete with its low Quebec tuition fees against richer schools such as Queen´s, UofT, Alberta, and UBC.

McGill is only skin-deep. Dig a little deeper and you´ll see the school is severely underfunded.

^ I disagree. That guy is speaking the truth, McGill is so fucking underfunded it´s not even funny.

I even believe it´s probably a kid from McGill who´s expressing his hatred on his own school. I bet he´s also planning for a transfer to UofT, UBC, or even UAlberta.

McGill has one of the highest endowment and research funding of all universities in Canada. So please, reject, stop pulling shit out of your ass again.

COMPENSATION
Profs earning six-figure pay

VIRGINIA GALT

Most Canadian universities pay their full professors in excess of $100,000 a year on average, with top dollar going to those profs who also handle senior administrative duties, according to a report by Statistics Canada yesterday.

The well-endowed University of Toronto pays the most generous salaries -- an average of $142,115 for full professors with senior administrative duties and $134,680 for those without such duties. The second-richest pay packages are at the University of British Columbia, where full profs with senior administrative duties earn an average of $132,061 a year and those without are paid $123,547 a year.

The averages exclude professors in the medical and dental faculties.
