Remembrance Day Omission (in reply to: statutory holidays for 2007) Someone seems to have forgotten our war veterans - Remembrance Day on Nov. 11th for the years 2007 onward.

Lets We Forget (in reply to: statutory holidays for 2007) Why have we forgotten November 11th. We still have our sons, daughters, mothers and fathers fighting overseas, giving their lives for the freedom we cherrish. Let´s add this important Canadian Holiday to this list.

Lest We Forget (in reply to: statutory holidays for 2007) We have ´forgotten´ Nov 11th because we have a disconnect between institutional statutory holidays and private business.
Since some time in the late 80s early 90s under Brian Mulrooney Nov 11th ceased to be a holiday except for governments, government unionised labour and corporations governed by federal labour law (Banks etc).
Even some federally regulated corporations like a large cable/telco company headquartered in Toronto (it´s a wonderful neighbourhood. would you be my neighbour? Not Fred Rogers but Ted Rogers) has swapped the federal holiday for the warmer summer provincially mandated Civic holiday in August (most provinces) instead of giving employees both. On Nov 11th employees are encouraged to observe a minute of silence at 11am but I am sure that is lost in the jostle of everyday cubicle farm life.
Although I agreed with (and still do) most of the PC policy of the time the elimination of Nov 11th as a mandatory holiday was and is outrageous especially (but not only) when we are again at war.

Rememberance Day (in reply to: statutory holidays for 2007) Don´t forget November 11 on each of those years...Rememberance Day.

Remembrance Day (in reply to: statutory holidays for 2007) Although I do agree with everything that everyone has said about our war vetrans and we do owe them a lot...the Government of Ontario has designated it as a "Statutory" holiday.
The Government offices all get this day off but everyone else is expected to work. We do recognize 2 minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m. on November 11 and if we are lucky enough we may be able to take some time off to go to a ceremony at our local cenitaf but it is not a "paid day off". Therefore, it is NOT a statutory holiday.

Stat Holidays. (in reply to: statutory holidays for 2007) Did we stop having Easter Sunday? It wasn´t in your list.
|
Missing a stat (in reply to: statutory holidays for 2007) Just saw your list of stats for 2007....
Please note that Civic holiday is not a stat in all provinces...(i.e.Alberta has Family day in Febuary instead)
As well Remembrance day is also a stat, is it not?

Holiday typo (in reply to: statutory holidays for 2007) If you look in gray scale under your Canadian Holidays Forum and Discussion Web Site you will see Holidays incorrectly spelled.
